Reading Recovery

Yagoona PS aims to address the early learning needs of each student and as such employs 1 – 2 teachers as specialised Reading Recovery teachers.  Reading Recovery is a research-based intervention with the prime goal of accelerating literacy learning for those students in Year 1 experiencing difficulty learning to read and write.

Selection is based on prior reading achievement and diagnostic assessment. Reading Recovery teachers deliver daily one to one instruction to these students. Each lesson is individually designed to meet the student’s literacy learning needs. Reading Recovery supplements comprehensive classroom instruction by providing a variety of reading and writing experiences at students’ instructional level.

Research has shown that Reading Recovery students catch up with their peers within 12 to 20 weeks and continue to make progress from regular classroom instruction.

Yagoona Public School is proud to provide this individual attention to students’ learning needs.
